Activities

While the Brecon Beacons are renowned for walking, mountain biking and fishing, there are countless other outdoor pursuits available in the area from quad biking, climbing, horse riding to coasteering. Or you could even take a ride on an old steam train.

If you’re after a day out exploring, there is plenty of choice, whatever your preference. There are some very different things to do with Good Day Out. Fancy sheep trekking, walking with a little gang of Kune Kune pigs or tiny miniature donkeys, helping on a farm during lambing, fleece to felt, sheep dog shepherding? Touch base with Good Day Out to find out available dates and to book. Also take a look for lots more local information on the Talybont on Usk website.

Brecon itself is a traditional market town with an impressive Cathedral, a good selection of shops, museums and art galleries.

There are several castles in the area, including the remains of Carreg Cennen which stand on the edge of a 100 metre crag looking across the valley to the Black Mountain, Raglan Castle and Tretower Court are also very close and worth a visit.

For some industrial heritage why not visit Blaenavon Iron Works were the location for the BBC’s “Coal House” and “Coal House at War” series and you can visit the locations where the programmes were made. Just close by is Big Pit which is a brilliant trip down an old mine where you can see for yourself what it was like, how dark it was and where the pit ponies were stabled.

However, if all these activities have left you in need of some relaxation, why not take advantage of the professional massage offered by the On-Site Company, which is based in the adjoining Old Schoolhouse. Incorporating traditional Swedish massage with Japanese acupressure techniques, this is an amazing, stress-busting massage.
