Walking

The Brecon Beacons offer walks ranging from leisurely strolls to the more demanding steep-sided paths and deep gorges of "Waterfall Country".

Staying at this self catering holiday property, you’ll find that many walks are only a short distance away. Routes nearby suitable for children include Talybont Reservoir and Forest, the Promenade in Brecon and along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal towpath. Recently produced, there are now 4 great easy to follow walks from the village available to buy from Talybont Stores at only £1 each.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, there are longer, more challenging walks there are plenty to choose from. Of course we are very close to Pen y Fan which is the highest peak in South Wales. Whether you choose to hike up and down from Story Arms or do a more challenging 3 peak circuit, you will get breathtaking views (weather permitting). We are also close to Waterfall Country, Pontneddfechan, and the pack of walk is in the Annex for your use. While some of these are easily accessible, others are more difficult, such as Sgwd yr Eira, "Waterfall of the Snow", where the walk takes you behind the waterfall. There is also a series of small waterfalls just up the road past Talybont Reservoir and a lovely circular walk called The Henry Vaughan trial right from the doorstep.

We have lots of maps and walking guides here for you to use and are always happy to be on hand to help if we can. You will also find that there are guides who will take you on to the mountains if you are not confident about exploring yourself.

Please do be aware that weather up on the mountains is unpredictable even in the summer. You do need good sturdy boots, layers, hats and gloves. Also note that in an emergency, dial 112 on your mobile and whether you have a signal, credit or even a sim card you will be put through to emergency services. Tip: if after 60 seconds you are not through, turn 180 degrees and wait another 60 seconds as you own head can be in the way of a signal!!
