Eating out

When you want a break from self-catering, the Brecon Beacons has an impressive selection of places to eat, from local pubs to renowned Michelin-starred restaurants.

Talybont on Usk has four pubs which serve good quality food:

The Star Inn
Brecknock CAMRA Pub of the Year 2009 - 2015. Offers real ale and good home-made food, reasonably priced. The Star has a riverside beer garden and, during the winter, big log fires. There is live music on the last Friday evening of most months and ad hoc gigs, particularly during the summer months. A popular pub quiz takes place on Wednesday evenings from 9pm.

The Usk Inn
Dating from the 1840’s, the Usk is a country inn and restaurant, located on the edge of the village. Locally sourced food is available in the bistro-style restaurant or, more informally, in the bar.

The Traveller’s Rest
Freshly prepared traditional and more contemporary dishes, plus lighter meals - no bar.

The White Hart
On the edge of the canal, the White Hart is an old coaching inn with a large bar, big screen TV, and beamed dining room.

The Old Barn Tea Room
A short drive away, but well worth the trip, is this restored 18th century barn with spectacular views which offers a selection of home cooked food, light lunches and delicious afternoon teas.

There's also a lovely cafe in the Talybont Village Store a couple of minutes stroll from the School Annex, which is well worth a visit. The Store also offers a takeaway service and will happily prepare a picnic for you.
